AKHA TEEJ / AKSHAYA TRITIYA

Akha Teej is the popular name of Akshaya Tritiya in Northern and Western parts of India. Akha Teej is observed on the third day after the Amavasi day in Vaishaka month (April – May) as per the traditional Hindi calendar followed in North India. As per Hindu Astrology, the day is highly auspicious day because the sun and moon are believed to be at their best position and shower brilliance on earth.

The word "Akshaya" means imperishable or eternal - that which never diminishes. Initiations made or valuables bought on this day are considered to bring success or good fortune. Buying gold is a popular activity on Akshaya Tritiya, as it is the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity. Gold and gold jewelry bought and worn on this day signify never diminishing good fortune.
